Ahimsa Silk (or peace silk as its called sometimes ) is known as the eco-friendliest amongst silk. The process doesn’t involve any killing of the silkworm, also naming Ahimsa silk as ‘Eri’ silk or fabric of peace.
The name Eri is derived from the Assamese word ‘era’, which means castor as the silkworm feeds on castor plants.
Why is Eri Silk Cruelty-Free? Conventional silk is made by boiling live silkworms in their cocoons to extract the requisite filament/thread. To Make Eri Silk, the silk moths pierce their cocoons naturally and come out from their metamorphosis and live their fullest life peacefully. Then the pierced cocoons are taken to extract the required yarn, spin the silk fiber and make fabric out of it. Spreading the concept of Ahimsa (peace) to the world.
